Compu Quarterly: Q2 2015
Save Energy & Money with CRAH/CRAC Retrofits. Rebates Are Available!
Before in-row and other close-coupled cooling strategies were introduced 10 years ago, most data center facilities were built using perimeter-style CRAH (computer room air handler) and CRAC (computer room air conditioner) systems. Even today, larger enterprise, colocation, and cloud sites use downflow perimeter unitswith raised access floors for air distribution.
Save Over 50% in Energy Costs
Many people don’t realize, however, that today’s perimeter CRAH/CRAC is very different from those installed a few years ago. Variable speed EC (electronically commutated) fans and intelligent control systems enable today’s designs to more efficiently match a data center’s cooling demand.
So, how do you know if your system is performing efficiently?

Project Spotlight: Fairfax County, VA, Parking Garage
Compu Dynamics recently worked with Fairfax County, Virginia, to retrofit their parking garage lights to LED lights. We replaced hundreds of outdated, not-so-environmentally-friendly light bulbs with more energy-efficient LEDs—also reducing the number of fixtures. This project reduced the energy used by about 60 percent, saving the county a significant amount of energy and money.
